So, You Own a Commercial Building? Lucky you!

You have come to know that carries with it a great deal of responsibility.  Not the least of which is knowing when rewiring is needed long before it actually is.  Do-it-yourself instructional manuals and videos about keeping your building’s electrical works in good condition abound, but nothing beats an expert licensed electrician’s skills when it comes to commercial buildings!

Here are some of the common electrical problems in commercial buildings –

1.  Burnt out bulbs…sounds simple, but a pro will look for a loose circuit.
2.  Flickering lights…that’s not a good look for any business.
3.  Tripping breakers…ignoring this one can result in a destructive fire.
4.  Grounding problems…often caused by unbalanced branch circuits and wired feeders.
5.  Too few outlets…this is a common malady as your business grows.

Keep it simple…a plumber plumbs, a landscaper mows and trims around your property, an electrician takes care of your building’s electrical problems.  If you live in Belen, NM or anywhere in the greater Albuquerque area and you own a commercial building trust Daylight Electric and Appliance for your commercial wiring needs.  Just call (505) 864-3980.

Electricity vs. Mankind…Who wins?

I think the answer is electricity especially when it comes to replacing light switches and electrical outlets in your Belen and Albuquerque home.  Let’s take a look at a few tips, then you decide if you want to tackle the project yourself, or call in a certified electrician to do the job.  We think it’s an important decision.

When dealing with your home’s wiring –

1.  Remember not the reverse the wires
2.  When cutting wires, don’t make them too short.
3.  Don’t forget to turn the power off.
4.  If you are wiring a ground fault circuit interrupter make sure it is NOT backward.

You see, calling a professional electrician from Daylight Electric and Appliance is probably the best answer.  They have served just about any electrical problem you can imagine in the Belen and Albuquerque metro for years.  Now all you have to do is call (505) 864-3980…Oh, and stay away from those electrical outlets for now!

Defining an Electrical Contractor.

Here is a basic explanation… it is a business person or a company that provides electrical services.  They are also responsible for any work that needs to be constructed in relation to a particular design and the maintenance of any electrical systems.  This should apply to residences and commercial operations as well.

Contractors receive extensive training in preparation for entering the field and are required to be licensed depending on the regulatory standards and guidelines where they reside.  They pay an annual licensing fee and must obtain insurances as well as the necessary documents needed to keep their client safe.  Beware of anyone who is NOT licensed!

If you are looking for an electrical contractor who starts a project by completing estimated expenses for the client then you have come to the right place.  If you live in Belen or throughout the Albuquerque area and you need residential or commercial electrical work, please call Daylight Electric and Appliance at (505) 864-3980.

Staying Wired.

No, this is not an expose’ about John Belushi.  This is about commercial wiring.  One of the first differences between residential and commercial electrical installation has to do with the type of wiring used for each individual building.  In residential homes, the main type of wiring used has a plastic sheathing around the narrow wires.

As it pertains to commercial buildings, the electrical wiring is run in open spaces to allow access, but the wiring is contained in tube-like conduits for protection.  Commercial buildings use three-phase power.  Three-phase power delivers a total of 448 volts which is two legs of 120 volts and a third called a “wild leg” that carries 208 volts.

How to wire a commercial building is a complicated job for a true professional.  The team at Daylight Electric and Appliance of Belen serves all of the residential and commercial wiring needs of the greater Albuquerque area.  When you decide to wire or rewire your business give Daylight Electric and Appliance a call at (505) 864-3980.

Underground Pedestals and Subterranean Enclosers.

No, this is not spelunking 101.  These are electrical devices that are needed for homes and businesses throughout the Albuquerque area.  Installing them safely and securely is just part of what we do.  When it comes to distributing power, pedestals enable the connection of underground cables to several customers within the cabinets.

Subterranean enclosers are switchboxes that are installed underground and are suitable for installing all types of equipment for either permanent or temporary conductivity.  They can remain underground both actively and passively.  Don’t worry, you do not have to understand all of this, because we do!

The ins and outs of electrical installation and repair are why we exist here in our home of Belen and around greater Albuquerque.  We are Daylight Electric and Appliance and as the name suggests if you need electrical work or appliances installed, we are the one and only call you need to make.  Call us at (505) 864-3980.

Look, but Don’t Touch.

No question, electricity is an important, everyday part of our lives, but it’s also extremely dangerous.  If you have a utility pole near your home, keep your distance!   If a downed power line occurs nearby, never approach the area.  It’s amazing how obvious this fact is, yet Americans die every year touching them.

Just what does a utility pole consist of –

1.  Transmission wires…they carry electricity at up to 500 kilovolts
2.  Communication lines…used for cable tv, telephones, etc.
3.  Distribution wires…they carry the power to your home
4.  Transformer…this metal cannister converts high voltage to low voltage

Look, it’s okay to be curious.  I am curious about lions, but I wouldn’t jump into their habitat at the Albuquerque zoo and feed one!  Whenever you see a downed power line call us immediately to fix the problem.  We are Daylight Electric and Appliance serving all of Belen and the ABQ area.  That phone number for any electrical problem is (505) 864-3980.

An Overloaded Power Pole.

There’s danger here Sherrie.  You may have heard that old saying, but it really applies when you are referring to the power poles around your home.  Those wood poles that are currently active may need additional capacity.  Perhaps a storm-hardened system needs to be installed.  Storms often don’t give you a second chance!

A new system needs to be thoroughly tested for strength and practicality.  If potentially overloaded conditions are tested by an area professional, you will know how your power poles are going to hold up for the long haul.  Then, they can give you recommendations and solutions on the proper steps to take.

That is what we are all about here at Daylight Electric and Appliance.  Diagnosing the problem, then curing it with our trained pros.  Please visit our new website at www.daylighthvac.com to discover a myriad of services that we provide.  That’s Daylight Electric and Appliance Belen and Albuquerque’s answer to HVAC questions.  Just call us a (505) 864-3980.

Power Poles on Your Property.

Here is something that you should know, power poles made from various materials that support the overhead power lines to your home within your property boundary, and do not supply another customer, are called property poles. These poles are owned by YOU as part of the property – and it is your responsibility to have the poles regularly checked and maintained.

Campaigns have been launched to make property owners aware of their obligations after poorly maintained property poles caused several fires—one of which destroyed 55 homes.  A property pole needs to be regularly inspected.  Have that pole inspected by an electrical contractor at least once every five years.

In the Belen, NM and Albuquerque area you can always count on Daylight Electric and Appliance for complete and professional power pole inspection and recommendations.  Do not trust this task to just anyone in our area.  You can always count on the team from Daylight Electric and Appliance.  Just give them a call at (505) 864-3980.

Your Mobile Home Needs Electricity Too.

Unless you plan on parking your mobile home out in the New Mexico desert you will need full-service electricity.  After all, this is where you live!  Mobiles homes consume electricity just as much as site-built homes, and they get their electric supply through a regular electric meter as well.

It begins with directing a cable from either an electricity pole or a power outlet in the trailer park to your meter box.  You must make sure this cable is not live before making any connections for obvious security purposes.  Electrical gloves are essential to protect one’s hands and the right tool must always be used for a particular job.

Does this sound like a DIY job?  It probably should not be on your mind at all.  A true electrician needs to be on the job to make sure that it is done properly and safely.  The answer in the Albuquerque area is Justin Day and his crew from Daylight Electric and Appliance.  Make sure that your mobile home is hooked up safely by calling Justin at (505) 864-3980.

Hooking up your Home’s Central Air Conditioning.

There are several reasons why you may have waited until July in Albuquerque to do this.  Maybe your older home is getting a new a/c system.  Maybe you just waited to see if you needed a new one until things really heated up.  Perhaps you are about to move into a new construction and whole-house air conditioning is a must in four-season ABQ.

Adding central air is more affordable and less disruptive than you might imagine.  That’s the great news!  I don’t know if summers are really getting hotter or we've lost our tolerance for heat as we grow older, lots of us are tempted to yank out noisy, dripping window air conditioners and replace them with a quiet, efficient whole-house central-air-conditioning system.

This is where Daylight Electric and Appliance comes in.  They have been the Albuquerque area’s best friend when the summer season heats up.  Whether it is a repair of your existing all-home air conditioning unit or the installation of a brand new one Justin and his crew will do it right the first time…guaranteed!  Call them today at (505) 864-3980.

Let There Be Light.

No matter how old your home is, there may be signs of electrical problems before those pending dilemmas become full-fledged emergencies.  Knowing the symptoms of an electrical problem can help you seek out someone to make repairs preventing a dangerous situation that might lead to electrocution or property damage.

Here are some things to keep an eye on…

1.  Circuit breakers…they prevent wires from overheating.
2.  If you feel a minor shock when you touch an appliance.
3.  Check around ceiling lights for warm spots.
4.  If the lights flicker periodically.
5.  A noticeable odor that may smell like smoke.

Before warning signs turn into disasters have a professional electrician inspect your home.  In Belen, New Mexico and all around the Albuquerque area that is Justin and his team of electrical home problem solvers at Daylight Electric and Appliance.  Give them a call at any sign of the above warnings at (505) 864-3980.
