Stay Wired My Friends.

It might have been something that Timothy Leary would have said, but in this case it refers to the safety of the wiring in your home.  Outdated, damaged or otherwise poorly installed and maintained wiring is not something to take lightly!  There are hundreds of residential electrical fires in the Albuquerque area each year.

Here are some warning signs that demand your attention –

1.  Has a circuit breaker tripped?
2.  Be on the lookout for flickering lights.
3.  Look for any wiring that may be frayed or chewed.
4.  Search for any discoloration caused by smoke.
5.  Use your nose.  Sniff for odors of burning.

If any or all of these are prevalent in your home immediately reach for the phone and save the day!  Call Daylight Electric and Appliance Belen’s one of the Albuquerque area’s top home and office electrician.  They will come in and troubleshoot as well as repair your electrical problem giving you peace of mind again.  Call Daylight Electric and Appliance at (505) 864-3980.

Things are Heating Up Around Here.

It won’t be long now when Central New Mexico weather heats up and we will turn on our home’s air conditioner for the first time.  Waiting to see IF it works at peak efficiency this season could be disastrous if you have not followed some simple steps first.  This will give you some peace of mind going into June.

Before turning on your air conditioning –

1.  Check your thermostat.  Is it outdated?
2.  Look for exposed ductwork.
3.  Check the air vents.
4.  Look carefully at your drain line.
5.  Inspect the outdoor condenser unit.
6.  Does the electrical wiring show signs of wear and tear?

Before you begin these steps (and several others) do the smart thing!  Call Daylight Electric and Appliance serving Belen and greater Albuquerque.  They will do whatever is necessary to make sure that your home’s a/c cranks along at peak efficiency this summer.  Call them before things really heat up at (505) 864-3980.

Underground vs. Overhead Electrical Feeders.

First of all, you should never mess with either, but it may be beneficial to know about them.  When you deal with service entrance cables in new Belen and ABQ area homes the question often comes up about underground and overhead feeders. Are underground feeds better than overhead feeds?

Underground is safer but may be much more expensive.  The advantage of the underground feed is that there are no visible wires present, virtually eliminating the possibility of damage by storms.  With overhead service the feeder cables are exposed and suspended between the power pole and your home exposing them to the elements.

There are other factors to consider, but only one company to choose when installing or repairing underground or overhead electrical feeders.  That company is Daylight Electric and Appliance.  They have served the electrical needs of Belen and the surrounding Albuquerque area for many years.  Call them today at (505) 864-3980.

Flush Once a Year.

No, not your toilet, of course (we don’t even want to imagine that!), but rather your home’s water heater.  Yes, your water heater should be flushed once every year.  What exactly happens when a plumber flushes your water heater?  Well, he empties it into an approved drain, then fills the water back up.

That is the how, what about the why?  Think of it much like changing your car’s oil.  In this case, your water heater needs regular maintenance for top performance.  A water heater flush clears out sediment and minerals, such as calcium and lime, that could impede your heater’s performance.  Sediment builds up in the tank and that insulates it from the flame.

The job is a simple one for a certified plumber with experience in flushing, and repairing water heaters.  That is the work of Daylight Electric and Appliance serving the plumbing and electrical needs of the Belen and Albuquerque area for many years.  It beats the cost of a new water heater!  Give Daylight Electric and Appliance a call at (505) 864-3980.

Look, but Don’t Touch.

No question, electricity is an important, everyday part of our lives, but it’s also extremely dangerous.  If you have a utility pole near your home, keep your distance!   If a downed power line occurs nearby, never approach the area.  It’s amazing how obvious this fact is, yet Americans die every year touching them.

Just what does a utility pole consist of –

1.  Transmission wires…they carry electricity at up to 500 kilovolts
2.  Communication lines…used for cable tv, telephones, etc.
3.  Distribution wires…they carry the power to your home
4.  Transformer…this metal cannister converts high voltage to low voltage

Look, it’s okay to be curious.  I am curious about lions, but I wouldn’t jump into their habitat at the Albuquerque zoo and feed one!  Whenever you see a downed power line call us immediately to fix the problem.  We are Daylight Electric and Appliance serving all of Belen and the ABQ area.  That phone number for any electrical problem is (505) 864-3980.

Hook ‘em Up and Keep ‘em Home.

What does that mean?  Well, as it pertains to RV’s and your driveway you CAN in many cases live in there without actually living in your Albuquerque area home.  Did you know that?  First things first, we are not advocating that you live in your RV for and extended period, but maybe these upcoming moderate weather months make it more practical.

You can hook up your RV to your home’s electrical system, but you probably won’t be able to run every appliance or use the electricity 24/7.  Your RV will need at least a 30/50 Amp hookup to power the rig.  Accomplishing this safely for the long haul is probably the work of a professional HVAC company.

At Daylight Electric and Appliance, we have hooked up power to RV’s for decades.  We are professional electric and appliance hook up experts serving our hometown of Belen as well as the entire Albuquerque area.  Before you decide to hook up your RV to your home’s power please give us a call at (505) 864-3980.

What is Load Circulation?

Whether this is a brand-new furnace installation or you are getting ready to replace an older heating or cooling system, it is very important for you to get a load calculation done by a contractor.  The load calculation is an estimation of what exact size of a furnace is needed for your castle.

Here are some things included in the calculation –

1.  A complete inspection which includes walls, ceilings, and floors
2.  Assessing windows, doorways, and the size of the room
3.  Finding drafts
4.  Complying with building codes

A professional furnace installer knows all these things and much more.  In the long run you probably will be replacing your furnace with one of the same BTU rating.  Please allow us to help with this task from start to finish.  We are Daylight Electric and Appliance.  If you are replacing a furnace in the Belen and ABQ area just call us at (505) 864-3980.
